Get out a clean, fresh sheet of lined paper and write the alphabet, just as you normally would. Focus on which letters you have the most trouble with. Do your o's look like q's, or vice versa? Look down to the middle of the paper and write the alphabet again, this time in your neatest writing possible. Remember to use extra care to write the letters you circled neatly!

Use wide ruled paper. Writing big and between the lines will help you keep each letter uniformly sized and you'll be able to examine the more minor details of your letters. Switch to smaller rules as you progress.
Look around for someone that has very neat writing and ask them to help you improve your penmanship.
If you don't feel like writing out the entire alphabet, you can just try writing random things, like your name, your favorite foods, etc.
Try all types, don't just stick with one handwriting style, you can practice cursive, script, or other techniques, even block or bubble letters to make your writing unique.
Don't worry about the time or when your friends finish their work, you should only be focusing on the fact that you want to write neatly.
Show friends your handwriting when you see an improvement, so that their encouragement will motivate you to keep at it.
Try using a sharp pencil. Your words will look blurred from a blunt tip.
